Gateron Milky Red Pro Linear 45g

Gateron KS-3 Pro Серия Introduced circa 2021

Gateron Milky Red Pro — factory-lubed light linear.

Типичные применения

Milky housing with pre-lubed Red internals. 45g actuation. Same milky RGB diffusion as the Yellow. For gaming where the lighter 45g spring is preferred over the 50g Yellow.

Research Notes

1. Overview

The Gateron KS-3 Milky Red (KS-3-MILKY-R / KS-3X1 Milky Red Pro) is a linear mechanical switch on Gateron's standard MX-style KS-3 platform. The "Milky" name denotes full milky/translucent Nylon PA66 housings — both top and bottom — prized in the enthusiast community for a deeper, thocky sound profile. At 45g actuation it is lighter than the Milky Yellow Pro (50g). The "Pro" tier adds factory lubrication, retooled molds, gold alloy contacts, and reduced stem wobble over the older standard unlubed KS-3 line.

2. User Sentiment

Community reception is positive: users describe "buttery smooth, consistent linear actuation" and "a lovely deep and creamy sound." The milky nylon housing produces a low-pitched thock that enthusiasts seek. The 45g weight makes it a go-to for gaming; users preferring slightly more resistance choose the Milky Yellow. Factory lube is considered adequate out of box; hand-lubing with Krytox 205G0 is a popular upgrade for further improvement.

3. Real-World Applications

The KS-3 Milky Red Pro is used in custom mechanical keyboards for gaming and light-touch typing. The light 45g actuation suits rapid gaming input with low fatigue. The 5-pin PCB mount covers most enthusiast PCBs; dual variant model numbers (KS-3H10B045NN-X1 plate, KS-3H10B045NW-X1 PCB) extend compatibility. Fully MX-compatible with standard keycap ecosystem, hot-swap sockets, and stabilizers.

5. Ordering & Compatibility

Available from Gateron official stores (gateron.com / gateron.co), MechanicalKeyboards.com, Keychron, LumeKeebs, Finalkey Studio, and Amazon. Pricing: ~$0.18–$0.45/switch at retail; $2.30/10-pack at specialty stores. Sold in 35-, 70-, and 110-piece quantities. Works with all MX-footprint keycaps and 5-pin hot-swap PCBs; pins can be clipped for plate-mount boards. Companion switches: Milky Yellow Pro (50g) and the KS-3X1 Full Milky series.

6. Known Issues

One retailer listing (keeb-finder.com) describes the Milky Red Pro as 3-pin and unlubed — likely stale data referencing the older standard (non-Pro) KS-3 Milky Red. All authoritative sources (Gateron official, MechanicalKeyboards.com, Milktooth, LumeKeebs, Finalkey Studio) confirm 5-pin and factory lubed for the Pro version. The standard non-Pro KS-3 Milky Red may still exist as an older unlubed variant but is no longer listed on Gateron's current product pages. The ±15 gf actuation tolerance is wider than some competitors, meaning batch variation is a minor concern.

Краткое руководство по монтажу

Panel cutout: 22mm. Insert from the front of the panel, secure with mounting nut from behind (tighten to 2-3 Nm).

Contact block: Snap or screw the contact block onto the rear of the button body. Ensure the contact block orientation matches the wiring diagram — NO terminals are usually marked.

Wiring: Use 0.5-2.5mm² stranded wire with ferrules. Tighten screw terminals to 0.8 Nm. Test the button function before energizing the circuit.

Устранение неисправностей

Button doesn't respond when pressed

Check the contact block first — it's the most common failure point. Test continuity across the NO or NC terminals with a multimeter. If no click is felt, the return spring in the head may be broken.

Works intermittently

Contact block contacts are pitted or burned. Replace the contact block — don't try to file the contacts. Check if the rated cycle count has been exceeded.

Button feels mushy or doesn't click

The spring return mechanism in the button head is worn. Replace the head. The contact block can usually be reused if it tests OK.
