OBSF-30-Y

1. Overview

The OBSF-30-Y is the yellow color variant of Sanwa Denshi's OBSF-30 snap-in 30mm pushbutton — mechanically and electrically identical to all other OBSF-30 color variants. Manufactured in Japan, the OBSF-30 has been the de facto arcade standard for over 20 years, shipping OEM in Blast City, Vewlix, and Versus City cabinets, and in Qanba, Hori, and Mad Catz/Razer fightsticks. Yellow is commonly used for accent buttons (start, special-move, super), Pac-Man/retro themes, and color-coded fighting game layouts. A black-bezel yellow variant (OBSF-30-K/Y) is also available.

2. User Sentiment

Community reception is strongly positive. FocusAttack reviews (12 ratings, 5-star average): "look and feel better, breeze to install, don't sound too loud." A French hardware review notes they respond "very quickly under the fingers, with a light and high trigger threshold and fast return." Hardware reviewers call them "the gold standard for competitive play." Main critique is the feather-light actuation causing occasional accidental inputs; some prefer stiffer Seimitsu alternatives. A minority of users have reported batch-level plunger squeaking, rare brittle plastic, and snap-tab breakage during removal — community consensus is these are not systemic. Counterfeit OBSF-30 buttons circulate; Sanwa has issued official warnings and comparison images.

3. Real-World Applications

Primary use in Japanese arcade cabinets (Taito, Sega, Namco), custom fightstick builds on metal panels, and home arcade mod projects (Arcade 1UP upgrades). Yellow is a popular choice for start/select or special-function button positions in themed builds. Beyond gaming, the OBSF-30 has been used to mod DJ equipment (Pioneer EFX-1000 Tempo Tap). LED mod PCBs integrating WS2812B LEDs inside the OBSF-30 housing are popular in the fightstick community.

6. Known Issues

Occasional plunger squeaking (plastic offcuts) and rare brittle plastic (molding defects) reported across the OBSF-30 line. The snap-in tabs are fragile under forced extraction — improper removal technique can snap one or both clips. Counterfeit units are in circulation; buy from established distributors. Resin can be damaged by high-concentration alcohol/solvent cleaners; use neutral detergent only.
