VZM35-SN
सक्रियInovelli Blue Series Fan Speed Switch
Inovelli Blue Series Zigbee fan speed controller.
सामान्य अनुप्रयोग
Dedicated ceiling fan speed control. 4 speeds: off/low/med/high. Same LED notification bar and multi-tap as the light switch. Pairs with the VZM31-SN for coordinated fan+light control from matching switches. The only Zigbee fan switch with community-developed firmware.
Research Notes
1. Overview
The Inovelli Blue Series Fan Switch (VZM35-SN) is a Zigbee 3.0 in-wall fan-speed controller — the fan-control counterpart to the Blue Series 2-in-1 dimmer/switch (VZM31-SN). It provides true 3-speed control of a 120 V AC ceiling fan (or on/off for an exhaust fan), and carries the same enthusiast feature set: an RGB LED notification bar, extensive scene control (multi-tap up to 5× plus hold on both paddles), Zigbee binding, and configurable parameters. It requires a neutral wire, fits a US single-gang box, and works with Home Assistant (ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT), SmartThings, and Hubitat.
2. User Sentiment
Popular in the Home Assistant/Zigbee community as one of the few feature-rich smart fan switches — real multi-speed control plus the notification LED and scene triggers. Praised for local control and configurability. Caveats: neutral required, it controls a standard AC fan motor (for a second smart fan-speed point you need hub support for Zigbee binding), the deep configurability has a learning curve, and it's a wall controller (not a canopy/module).
3. Real-World Applications
Smart control of a ceiling fan's speed (3-speed) or an exhaust fan (on/off), with scene triggers, LED status/notifications, and local automation — a matched aesthetic/behavior partner to the VZM31 light switch in the same room.
4. Technical Specifications
- Type: In-wall Zigbee 3.0 fan-speed switch (3-speed ceiling / on-off exhaust)
- Scene control: multi-tap up to 5× + hold, both paddles
- Indicator: RGB LED notification bar
- Local control: Zigbee binding, configurable parameters
- Wiring: US single-gang, neutral required
- Ecosystem: Home Assistant (ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT), SmartThings, Hubitat; Matter on newer firmware
- Approvals: UL, FCC
5. Ordering & Compatibility
Needs a neutral and a Zigbee coordinator/hub (or HA Zigbee stick). Controls a standard 120 V AC fan motor; for true multi-point smart fan control the hub must support Zigbee binding. Firmware is user-updatable. Pairs aesthetically/behaviorally with the VZM31-SN light switch.
6. Hackability & Known Issues
- Hackability: very high (same platform as VZM31) — deep parameters, local Zigbee binding, notification-LED control, multi-tap scenes, user firmware updates, full local control via ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT.
- Known issues: neutral required, configuration learning curve, standard AC fan control (not DC/canopy module), and it relies on a Zigbee network.

Panel cutout: 22mm. Insert from the front of the panel, secure with mounting nut from behind (tighten to 2-3 Nm).
Contact block: Snap or screw the contact block onto the rear of the button body. Ensure the contact block orientation matches the wiring diagram — NO terminals are usually marked.
Wiring: Use 0.5-2.5mm² stranded wire with ferrules. Tighten screw terminals to 0.8 Nm. Test the button function before energizing the circuit.
आयाम
समस्या निवारण
Button doesn't respond when pressed
Check the contact block first — it's the most common failure point. Test continuity across the NO or NC terminals with a multimeter. If no click is felt, the return spring in the head may be broken.
Works intermittently
Contact block contacts are pitted or burned. Replace the contact block — don't try to file the contacts. Check if the rated cycle count has been exceeded.
Button feels mushy or doesn't click
The spring return mechanism in the button head is worn. Replace the head. The contact block can usually be reused if it tests OK.
