Killark 22mm ATEX Push Button Station

Hubbell XCS सीरीज़ Introduced circa 2005

Hubbell Killark explosion-proof push button control station.

सामान्य अनुप्रयोग

American-made explosion-proof push button for Class I Div 1 / ATEX Zone 1 hazardous locations. Cast aluminum enclosure with copper-free construction for hydrogen environments. Hubbell Killark is the American standard for explosion-proof controls — specified on US oil refineries, chemical plants, and gas processing facilities. The American equivalent of Pepperl+Fuchs in Europe.

Research Notes

1. Overview

The Hubbell Killark XCS-0B4 is a factory-sealed explosion-proof pushbutton control station from Killark's XCS series, built for hazardous (classified) locations — Class I, Division 1 (and Zone 1), Class II. It's a rugged cast-aluminum, NEMA 7/9 enclosure housing a single momentary pushbutton operator with a 1 NO contact (rated ~10 A). It provides safe manual control (start/stop/function) of equipment in areas with flammable gases/vapors or combustible dust — refineries, chemical plants, fuel/grain handling, etc.

2. User Sentiment

Killark is a trusted name in hazardous-location control. These stations are specified for compliance and durability — heavy cast enclosures, factory-sealed operators, and multi-standard listings (UL/cUL, and ATEX/IECEx for international). There's no consumer "sentiment"; selection turns on the area classification, the operator/contact configuration, and correct conduit/sealing practice at install.

3. Real-World Applications

Manual control (start/stop, function, or e-stop where configured) of motors, pumps, and equipment in explosive/dust-hazard areas — oil & gas, petrochemical, fuel terminals, grain/agri processing, paint/solvent plants.

4. Technical Specifications

  • Type: Explosion-proof pushbutton control station (single operator), momentary
  • Contact: 1 NO (~10 A rating)
  • Enclosure: cast aluminum, NEMA 7/9 (factory-sealed)
  • Hazardous rating: Class I Div 1 / Zone 1; Class II (dust)
  • Approvals: UL, cUL, ATEX, IECEx
  • Series: Killark XCS control stations

5. Ordering & Compatibility

Part of the Killark XCS series (the suffix defines operator count/type/contacts — this is a single pushbutton, 1 NO). Confirm the area classification (gas group/temperature class), operator function, and contact configuration for the application, plus proper sealing fittings/conduit per code. Stocked by industrial distributors (AutomationDirect, Radwell, etc.).

6. Known Issues

No notable reliability issues — purpose-built hazardous-location hardware. Practical care: it is a classified-location device — installation, sealing, and maintenance must follow NEC/area-classification rules; verify the correct Division/Zone, gas/dust group, and temperature class for the site, and the operator/contact match the control function.

Panel cutout: 22mm. Insert from the front of the panel, secure with mounting nut from behind (tighten to 2-3 Nm).

Contact block: Snap or screw the contact block onto the rear of the button body. Ensure the contact block orientation matches the wiring diagram — NO terminals are usually marked.

Wiring: Use 0.5-2.5mm² stranded wire with ferrules. Tighten screw terminals to 0.8 Nm. Test the button function before energizing the circuit.

समस्या निवारण

Button doesn't respond when pressed

Check the contact block first — it's the most common failure point. Test continuity across the NO or NC terminals with a multimeter. If no click is felt, the return spring in the head may be broken.

Works intermittently

Contact block contacts are pitted or burned. Replace the contact block — don't try to file the contacts. Check if the rated cycle count has been exceeded.

Button feels mushy or doesn't click

The spring return mechanism in the button head is worn. Replace the head. The contact block can usually be reused if it tests OK.
