22mm Red Mushroom Momentary Button M22

Part number: M22 - DP - R
Eaton M22 Series Introduced circa 2000

Eaton M22 red mushroom momentary push button.

Common Applications

Non-latching red mushroom for cycle stop applications. Springs back when released — machine can restart immediately. For Eaton panels. Not an e-stop.

Research Notes

1. Overview

The Eaton M22-DP-R is a red mushroom-head actuator for the M22 / RMQ-Titan 22.5 mm system — momentary (non-latching), non-illuminated. As an M22 actuator it is a head/operator only: it fits an M22 fixing adapter/body and needs a separate M22 contact block (K10/K01, etc.) to function. It's the momentary counterpart to the maintained mushroom (Eaton's latching push-pull mushrooms use different codes, e.g. M22-PV for E-STOP). Front sealing IP67.

2. User Sentiment

Standard, robust RMQ-Titan hardware. The important practical point is that it's modular/head-only — order the actuator plus the matching contact block(s) and fixing adapter. A momentary red mushroom gives a large, easy-to-hit non-latching press; it is not an emergency stop (an e-stop latches — use M22-PV/PVT for that).

3. Real-World Applications

A large red momentary mushroom for a prominent press that returns when released (jog/hold, momentary stop, or a big-target function button). For a latching E-STOP, use a proper push-pull/twist mushroom (M22-PV…), not this momentary actuator.

4. Technical Specifications

  • Type: M22/RMQ-Titan mushroom actuator (head-only), non-illuminated
  • Actuator: red mushroom, momentary (non-latching)
  • Cutout: 22.5 mm
  • Contacts: none integral — add M22 contact block(s)
  • Sealing: IP67 (front); IP69K typical on M22
  • Approvals: UL, CSA, CE

5. Ordering & Compatibility

Order the M22-DP-R actuator plus an M22 fixing adapter and contact block(s) (e.g. M22-K01 for a stop-type NC). Fits 22.5 mm cutouts, M22 system. Note the maintained mushroom variant is a different catalog number, and a latching E-STOP mushroom (M22-PV…) is different again.

6. Known Issues

No notable reliability issues — mainstream M22 hardware. Practical care: it's a head/actuator only (add contacts + adapter), it's momentary (not a latching E-STOP — don't substitute for safety-stop duty), and confirm the 22.5 mm cutout and required contact configuration.

Installation Quick Reference

Panel cutout: 22.5mm. Insert from the front of the panel, secure with mounting nut from behind (tighten to 2-3 Nm).

Contact block: Snap or screw the contact block onto the rear of the button body. Ensure the contact block orientation matches the wiring diagram — NO terminals are usually marked.

Wiring: Use 0.5-2.5mm² stranded wire with ferrules. Tighten screw terminals to 0.8 Nm. Test the button function before energizing the circuit.

Troubleshooting

Button doesn't respond when pressed

Check the contact block first — it's the most common failure point. Test continuity across the NO or NC terminals with a multimeter. If no click is felt, the return spring in the head may be broken.

Works intermittently

Contact block contacts are pitted or burned. Replace the contact block — don't try to file the contacts. Check if the rated cycle count has been exceeded.

Button feels mushy or doesn't click

The spring return mechanism in the button head is worn. Replace the head. The contact block can usually be reused if it tests OK.
